Highlight of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics

No, it wasn't any of the sporting events. Can't remember bugger-all about those.

The stand-out for me, occurred during the closing ceremony.

This is what I'm talking about:

I remember watching Jose Carreras and Sarah Brightman perform "Amigos Para Siempre (Friends for Life)", and I tell ya, I was spellbound by it.

Haven't even seen it in seventeen years. But thanks to the magic of YouTube, it's yours to witness again. Or, for the first time. Congrats!

It's a beautiful song and still holds up well.

I even prefer this original live rendition compared to the recorded version released as a single and included as a track on the compilation album, Barcelona Gold.

It's more evocative of the "spirit" of the Olympics, to me. Hell, I can even tolerate the goofy arm-swaying of the crowds. If anything, it adds to its effect.

So, sit back and enjoy this blog's inaugural "Song of the Day".
